The United Methodist Church of Pflugerville
Receives Rev. Russell Floyd as Their New Pastor
Since graduating from Baylor University, Rev. Russell S. Floyd has served the church for more than 30 years. He has primarily fulfilled the role as a Sr. Minister over four decades in six different appointments, including First Methodist churches in Irving, Sulphur Springs, Lewisville, and Frisco, Texas. Rev. Russell has also served churches in North Dallas and Denison, TX. The churches have ranged in size, location, and demographic membership makeup. These many churches were the seedbeds for his core values of: encouraging discipleship, building up people, developing staff and teams, envisioning new ministries, growing membership, strengthening stewardship, and leading worship.
Pastor Russell graduated from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Communications in 1981. Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary awarded him his Master of Divinity degree in 1984. At seminary, he also completed a unit Clinical Pastoral Training at Baylor Medical Center. Recently, Rev. Floyd engaged in post graduate studies at Perkins School of Theology, concentrating on Missional Studies. Texas Women’s University selected him to share his work in their 2016 Ted-Ed Talks.
Rev. Russell has gravitated to three primary areas of conference leadership: children and youth ministries, clergy and staff development, and congregational transformation. Bridgeport Camp and Conference Center was a regular summer stop for Pastor Russell, where he directed children’s camps, and also served as a long-time board member. Mentoring clergy and staff have always brought Russell great satisfaction. Rev. Floyd served on two different district’s Board of Ordained Ministry and fulfilled one term as chair. These experiences led to a four-year term on the Committee of Preparation and Qualifications. Holy Conversations and the Healthy Church Initiative prepared him to become a consultant, trainer, facilitator, and coach within these transformational programs.
James D. Klote & Associates (JDK&A) invited Rev. Floyd to join the firm as a Campaign Director and Consultant. In August 2017, Russell was promoted to Regional Vice President of JDK&A. He is responsible for providing oversight to all of the firm’s Capital Campaigns and offers stewardship consulting services in Texas and surrounding states. Currently, Rev. Floyd provides supervisory direction to campaigns in his region that are seeking to raise $1M-$45M along with his other stewardship consultation services to churches, schools and non-profits.
Rev. Russell is married to Terri. They will celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary on June 14. Terri is an educational administrator who recently served as an elementary principal in the Eagle Mountain-Saginaw Independent School District. Terri took this last year off. She hopes to return to her career in educational administration in the Pflugerville, Round Rock, or Hutto school systems when the 2018 school year begins.
Four grown children and five grandchildren bring genuine smiles to Terri and Russell. Last spring, they made their decision to relocate to the Austin area to be closer to two of their four children, along with three of their five grandchildren. The oldest child, Lauren, lives in south Austin. She is the curriculum developer for Bright Horizon Family Center in Oak Hill. Tara is a Diamond/Ruby Ambassador for Plexus Worldwide. She and her husband David along with Sophia, Olivia and Charlotte, reside on their ranch in Liberty Hill, TX. Erin lives in Nashville, TN and is an editor and writer for children’s curriculum at the United Methodist Publishing House. Blake and his wife Torie live in Mansfield, TX with Chloe and Hunter. Blake is a welder and member of Pipe Fitters and Plumbers UA Local 100 chapter.
Pastor Russell’s hobbies include the game of golf and is a general sports nerd. Saltwater fishing calls the name of Russell and Terri at least once a year. Russell is the household cook while Terri runs along behind him cleaning up his mess.
Rev. Floyd is thrilled for the opportunity to serve First United Methodist Church of Pflugerville. It is Pastor Russell’s intention to personally visit with every household in the setting of their choice. He wants to know you and the stories that make up who you are. Feel free to reach out to him, beginning in July. He would love to share a cup of coffee, cold drink, or meal when you have some time, so we can better build this part of the Body of Christ called Pflugerville, FUMC.
